The Shiranee Joseph de Saram Foundation supports the creation of opportunities for those with special needs in Sri Lanka.

Specifically, we support The Rehabilitation Center for the Communication Impaired (The RCCI). The RCCI is a non-governmental organization established in 1993 to care for children and adults with special needs. It was founded by Shiranee Joseph de Saram, Sri Lanka’s pioneering Speech Language Therapist. The Centre was established to provide training and support for those with Autism, Cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, learning disabilities, and other disorders in a school-like setting leveraging Mrs. Joseph de Saram’s extensive experience both in Sri Lanka and the UK.

Today, the RCCI continues to strive for a world where every person with special needs has the opportunity to access education, embrace expanded possibilities and reach their full potential for independence. We incorporate Speech and Language Therapy into our teaching programme and place an emphasis on the development of social communication and independence skills to facilitate integration into society. Specific activities are planned according to the student’s needs based on an Individual Education Plan.
